Famously know as 7 Mile Beach, Negril Beach, on the western tip of Jamaica, starts
from North Negril Point at the northern end of Bloody Bay, and runs south
around Rutland Point and then down Long Bay to the mouth of the Negril
River. |
South from the Negril River running down towards the Negril Lighthouse the rocky cliffs of Negril's West End overlook the crystal clear blue waters of the Caribbean Sea. |
A days outing to Negril Beach when I was a youngster was a special event. We always went to the West Indies Sugar Company Beach House not far from the mouth of the river - a lovely old structure raised off the ground on stilts, to protect against adverse weather.
At that time there may have been a couple dozen houses on the entire stretch of Long Bay. The West End had the Negril Yatch Club and a few houses. Bloody Bay was a deserted stretch of beach.
Slowly but surely Negril has grown into what it is today.
The
last two decades in particular have seen immense growth, and in another
two decades even the Negril we know today will be unrecognizable.
Today's Negril is totally laid back and is known as the Capital of Casual. Almost anything goes. Topless beauties roam the sands by day, and Hedonism ll by night. If you object to nudity you may be better off selecting another part of Jamaica for your Jamaican vacation. |

But that said, several of Negril's all-inclusive resorts and hotels cater to families. So within these family resorts and hotels there should be "No Problem".

A visit to Rick's Cafe is a must. Jump or dive off the cliffs
for an adrenaline rush, or take the steps down to swim in the crystal
clear waters, then sit with a rum punch or Red Stripe Beer watching the
sun slowly sink below the horizon.
You will see some of the most beautiful sunsets anywhere.
All the usual water sports are available - para-sailing, Jet-skis, glass-bottom boats, banana boats, snorkeling, scuba diving, sailing, deep-sea fishing.
Most people just relax somewhere on the seven miles of Negril Beach recovering from the excitement of the previous evenings nightlife.
If you are a golfer, a round of golf at Negril Hills Golf Club is a must. A scenic course, and a relaxing laid back atmosphere.
From Negril you can easily explore Jamaica's South Coast. Ys Falls, Black River Safari, Accompong, Appleton Rum tours, Mayfield falls, Treasure Beach, are just some of the places you can visit.
