All of our Jamaica Golf Courses are excellent tests of golf, and most are of championship quality. Some are short, some are long, none are easy, and I am sure you will enjoy playing any and all of them, with their spectacular scenery and some very memorable holes.
Top golf architects such as Stanley Thompson, Howard Watson, Robert Trent Jones Snr, Hank Smedley, Roger Rulewich, Robert von Hagge, and Rick Baril have been involved in the design and construction of most of our Jamaica Golf Courses.
There
are currently twelve golf courses in Jamaica, and the Sandals Group announced in 2011 that Greg Norman would be involved in the design and
construction of a new course at their Sandals Whitehouse Resort, built
on the Ackendown (also spelt Auchindown or Auchindoun) property in
Westmoreland, but we are still waiting to hear anything more.
All of our Jamaican Resorts either have their own golf course, or have access to one.
So when you are planning your next golf vacation make it a Jamaica Golf Vacation.
With
the exception of the White Witch Golf Course, the Negril Hills Golf
Course, and the Braco Course, I have played all of them many, many times over many years, and I love and can recommend them all.
Constant Spring Golf Club
One
of my favorites, and although not a long course it is one of Jamaica's
most challenging golf courses. It is nestled in the foothills of
Constant Spring, one of Kingston's main residential areas.
Caymanas Golf and Country Club
About
seven miles west of Kingston towards Spanish Town, the Caymanas Golf
Course is a top quality championship course built on the Caymanas Sugar
Estate.
It opened in 1958, and hosted one of "Shell's Wonderful World
of Golf" events in 1969 with Julius Borus, Frank Beard and Gardner
Dickinson.
Manchester Club
In the parish of Manchester, Jamaica's central parish, we find the town of Mandeville, a
little over 2000 ft above sea level. Here we find the charming 9 hole
Manchester Club Golf Course.
Opened in 1865, it is the oldest golf course in Jamaica, the Caribbean, and reputedly the oldest in the Western hemisphere. The Manchester Club is as well known for its tennis as it is for its golf.
SuperClubs Ironshore Golf and Country Club
A couple miles east of Montego Bay Airport we have what used to be the Ironshore Golf and Country Club. It is one of the courses belonging to the SuperClubs/Breezes Resorts.
Half Moon Golf Course
A couple of miles further east we come to the Half Moon Golf Course. It is a Robert Trent Jones Snr design, and a part of the Half Moon Rose Hall Resort. The Half Moon Rose Hall Resort is acknowledged to be one of Jamaica's and the world's top golf resorts.
The White Witch Golf Course
The
White Witch Golf Course is the newest of three courses built on Annie
Palmer's Rosehall Estate, and it is probably the most spectacular and
scenic.
Cinnamon Hill Golf Course
The Cinnamon Hill Golf Course, also on Annie Palmer's Rose Hall Estate, was originally the Wyndham Rose Hall Golf Course.
Runaway Bay Golf Course
The Runaway Bay Golf Course in the parish of St Ann., which was one of the SuperClubs courses, is now the Jewel Runaway Bay. It is a tough, wind blown, and challenging championship course, which I have always enjoyed playing.
Sandals Golf and Country Club
Also
in the parish of St Ann, situated in the hills above Ocho Rios, the
Sandals Golf and Country Club is now one of the top Jamaican Golf
Resorts. Previously this was a 9 hole course belonging to the
Upton Golf Club, but it has been developed into a quality 18 hole golf
resort.
