The Blue Mountain Wilderness Retreat and Camp Site is perhaps Jamaica's only true wilderness accommodation for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts.
Situated 1,000 ft. above sea level in the forest of Jamaica's majestic Blue Mountains, the facility offers that secluded personal space and peace of mind.
It can, for larger gatherings, be an eventful place for fun and entertainment, while the surrounding wilderness provides a laboratory at hand for students and researchers.
Our community development programme is ideal for volunteers wanting to make a meaningful contribution to rural development.
A one mile hike through the forest from the coffee growing village of Bangor Ridge in Portland is the Retreat's only access.
The residents of Bangor Ridge have been an integral part of the development of the Wilderness Retreat for the past decade and their hospitality and support ensure that guests feel secure and appreciated.
The Retreat consists of two separate Camp Sites, the Grand Ridge View and the Bamboo Grove, that together can accommodate a total of 55 persons.
The Grand Ridge View Camp Site boasts panoramic views of the Blue Mountain Range and adjoining valleys and hills.
On this site is the Jamaica House Cabin which accommodates 4 people (2 double beds).
The Bamboo Grove Camp Site, cosily tucked away beneath the arches of the surrounding bamboo forest, accommodates 20 persons in a 3 story dorm (5 double Bunk Beds on 2 of the 3 floors).
In addition, each site has camping facilities (Tent and Tent Sites for 15 persons).
Whatever your interest or needs may be, the facilities and services at the Blue Mountain Wilderness Retreat and Camp Site offer a holistic experience of being in a place that is secluded but safe, peaceful but not boring, rustic yet comfortable, and remote but still easily accessible.
From Bangor Ridge, Kingston's Norman Manley International Airport is 2 hours drive and Montego Bay's Donald Sangster Airport is 4 hours away.
The resort towns of Ocho Rios and Port Antonio are in easy reach, being just 2 and 1 1/2 hours drive away respectively.
